In 2004 the Millennium Music Conference will feature 3 full days of business sessions. It's where you can meet and learn from music producers, managers, agents, promoters, talent buyers, publicists, publishers, studio engineers, radio station executives, lawyers, songwriters, recording artists, CD manufacturers and distributors, independent and major record label representatives. Sessions examine and discuss topical issues and the advances in technology that impact the future of music and music business. Registrants attend panels, clinics, workshops and sign-up for "one-on-one" mentoring & demo listening sessions with music industry professionals on Thursday, Friday and Saturday on the mezzanine level of the Crowne Plaza Harrisburg.

A panel of industry professionals discuss the essentials for emerging talent. Know the players! Agents, Managers, Promoters, Publicists, Producers, Publishing, Contracts, Starting a Small Business and more.

1:00PM to 2:00PM Music Business Boot Camp 1 (C)
David Hooper, of Nashville, TN and Kathode Ray Music will present an informative workshop on how to get the most out of the music conference. Tips and ideas on networking and making back your investment quickly. David will introduce effective networking techniques that will enable you to make the connections you want and need to make at the conference.

2:30PM to 3:30PM Unlocking Your Songs Potential (B)
Human Factor’s Blake Althen takes 3 vocal and guitar tracks and, in real time, creates 3 versions of the song right before the audience's eyes. A panel of Citadel Radio Programmers meet with label rep's trying to sell their new artists' single. The audience will participate via Pinnacle Media's new digital technology. Watch, listen and learn by participating and evaluating new music.

4:00PM to 5:00PM The Future Of Music & Technology (B)
Industry Pro's discuss issues and answer questions about digital technology, artists' rights, consolidation and the current and future state of the music industry. A look at the trends in Urban Music, Radio, Distribution and the Recording Arts.

4:00PM to 5:00PM DIY Panel. (C)
How to make it happen for your act or your clients. Some success stories and survival tips. Doing It Yourself and getting things done. Tricks and tools of the trade in a digital age.

FRIDAY BUSINESS SESSIONS

1:00PM to 2:00PM Artist Development and The Business Plan (A)
A panel of industry professionals examines the building blocks of an artist's career. Young managers learn how to hone their skills, build a network and create an artist's development plan. Short and long range plans for success.

1:00PM to 2:00PM Making & Shopping Your Demo (B)
How to choose the best producer, engineer and studio to make your demo. How many songs should be on it and how should it be packaged? What to do with that demo? How to get it into the hands of the right people. Should you hire someone to shop it? Will an unsolicited demo end up in the trash can? What about radio stations, indie labels, compilations and mp3's?

2:30PM to 3:30PM NARAS Panel (A)
"Putting The Plan Into Action" presented by The Recording Academy. Entertainment Attorney/Record Label owner John Robertson and other professionals from the music and financial world will discuss how artists and small music businesses take the next step in their career. A follow up to the 1:00pm Creating A Business Plan, this session will look at how to present your project to potential supporters in the financial world and beyond. A must-attend in this new-world approach to getting your music heard.

2:30PM to 3:30PM Marketing & Promotion (B)
You may have great songs and a really tight band but you need to get the word out and start creating a buzz! What are the avenues to pursue? The Internet, Music Magazines, Street Teams, Showcasing, Merchandise and Word of Mouth are all parts of the equation. Some success stories and models for your band.

Building a base of fans and getting them out to your shows. Gig swapping and playing in support. Tips on how to approach club owners and talent buyers. The art of touring; how some get it done.

The majors are in a pickle and it's not just digital piracy that’s driving them nuts. Are they losing control? Looks like a lot of A&R reps are losing their jobs in 2004. What's going on at the majors? Are they signing acts? What are they looking for? What does major label consolidation mean to emerging talent? How do young artists attract the attention of a major label? What happens to A&R executives who don't sign the next big thing?

4:00PM to 5:00PM Hit or Miss? Demo Derby! (B)
Drop your CDs/tapes off outside the panel room and get ready to hear what our panel of music industry professionals have to say about your surefire number one hit. A panel of radio savvy industry pros will listen to songs and tell you why it's a Hit or Not. Entries must be a ONE SONG CD or CDR that is unmarked and not labeled. Not title, contact information or markings. Place your tune into a box at the beginning of the session. Got new music? Bring it on!
